I find most night when the team is being completely embarrassed that they could use a fight to spark some emotion and he doesnt appear to have that in him anymore.

I know fighting means like nothing but it can be a good guide to see if youre team has any life in them in a situation like ours.

Like I might be a dinosuar but to me when you are down 7 to 1 going into a 3rd period I need to see a scrap because you arent winning the game at least get some of youre respect back in a game like that but we have had the score run up on us multiple times now and the boys just take it.

Now that I'm moving into acceptance for being garbage again, it's a very good draft. I don't think Askarov is the pick for us. Perfetti and Holtz would be excellent picks assuming we drop out of the top 3. The goal scoring touch is sorely needed. Palms can't be the only sniper on the team.

Also, to be on topic, what really could we possibly get for Wood of value? He barely made the team out of camp and probably wouldn't have if not for his contract. If we trade him before the deadline, we're likely selling low.

Thanks Todd. I've been on the trade Wood band wagon for a while now. Question is, what could we reasonably expect for him in return?

Is Wood tradable? He is 1M overpaid. He can skate in a straight line, and hit, but his hockey IQ is suspect. But if Ray can move him for a 5th, I am happy.

Most trade-deadline deals are fire-sales. I believe you get more value trading sooner. And if you fear Wood gets dealt too low, what would you consider high for a fringe NHL'er?

When he's on his game, we could get maybe a 3rd or 4th. Right now, he'd probably fetch no more than a 6th or something. I just don't see the point of trading him for scraps just to put Hayden in his place as if that sends a message.

Is he a fringe nhler though or is he just playing like one ? Im certainly not saying he could be top six but we need to find out if he is how he is playing or if he is just playing bad.

The other thing to is after we sell off, Hughes will still need to be sheltered and we will still need to have some horses for that.

I would take Askarov.

With hopefully the dman we are getting from Hall, plus the wingers we already have, and the Centermen, would be nice to have a top tier prospect goalie.

Isles 3rd rd pick and Komorov (gotta lose some salary) for Wood?? Both have two years left after this year.

He's phenomenal and potentially a franchise goalie, but I have to think that Blackwood is better than this system has allowed him to be and we already have him. There have been flashes of brilliance and he's among the youngest (the youngest?) goalie in the league.
This is (hopefully) the last chance to get a stud in this draft and I'd rather have a real, dangerous goal scorer.

Although it would be nice to get 1 or 2 and not have to worry about it.

This is the point. Miles Wood isn't the problem with this team. People just lost their poop that he and Hayden were in the lineup over skill guys (usually Boqvist). But if you're just getting a 3rd round pick or worse back then you are better off keeping Wood because that 3rd rounder is unlikely to be as good as him.

Also, It's not his job to fight he just did it occasionally. Now he doesn't but he's still one of the few guys who isn't soft and that's part of the value. IMO, unless the return is somehow compelling keep Wood and see how he does under the next NHL coach. He has a somewhat unusual skill set and even if it isn't paying dividends right now it's not worth throwing out for Richard.

He sucks and has a cap hit. Being cap flexible is worth more than the return on Wood.

Dude we're having Simmonds, Hall (I assume), Greene and Vats coming off with only Bratt due for a raise. The caps set to go up too. We are cap flexible.

And even if we weren't, 3 mil isn't making a difference

It's for this year. We can take on another team's expiring bad contracts to gain assets. I don't think it would be a bad move.

Miles is one of the most aggressive players on the team so I disagree with Friedman..the problem is he is always thinking speed he needs to slow the game down at times and be more patient..unfortunately in not sure miles is capable of making plays and while he shoots alot (which nj needs more of) he always shoots either from distance or bad angles which will never beat nhl goalies..rarely do I see miles in the slot between the circles that's why he can't score

Wood and Gusev for Gagner (cap reasons), Puljujärvi and Broberg.
